ABOUT MGT

years is how long MGT has been at it. Since 2002 legions of our campers have gone from ollies to big lofty spins, land industry jobs or grow into full pros defining the progression of female snowboarding.

2009 will be MGT's 7th season spreadin' the shreddin'. Since launching this camp we have seen our participants go from tentative to aggressive riders, from rookies to fully fledge pro snowboarders, from recreational riders to movers and shakers in the snowboard industry. We add a little bit of gnar sauce, passionate coaching and good times to your determination and out comes progression and hopefully a lifetime of enjoying the snow.

The MGT (More Good Times) Snowboard Camp is intended for female snowboarders who want to have fun and progress their snowboarding skills, especially in the park and pipe. We operate camps during the WINTER and SUMMER and run a SLOPESTYLE contest.

WHO IS THE CAMP FOR?

For females who snowboard! MGT provides coaching all over the mountain with a focus on terrain park. Our campers are typically recreational snowboarders as well as athletes interested in pursuing snowboarding competitively or professionally. Female riders learn how to hit their first rail or first large jump through to learning more complicated and progressive tricks like a cab 540 spin or a spin onto a difficult rail. Most of our participants are between the ages of 14 and 28 with variation at either end (with plenty of campers in their 30s). Take a look at the photo/video section to learn more.

SUPER COACHES - THE CELEBRITIES AND THE UNDERDOGS

We provide strong female role models for the woman rider who wants to push her abilities and pursue snowboarding at a high recreational level or a professional level. MGT coaches are professional female snowboarders including celebrity guest coaches and up and coming rippers. In the past this has included national team riders, Olympians and X-Games, Triple Crown, US Open and FIS World Cup podium finishers. The coach to rider ratio varies is about 1 coach for every 5 riders. Take a look at our coaches section to learn more.

THE SCOOP ON CAMP LOCATIONS

There are 3 winter snowboard camps and 2 summer snowboard camp sessions. During a 2 day winter camp you can learn the basic techniques that will give you the confidence and ability to hit jumps or rails properly, learn to hit them switch or how to increase the rotations on your spins. Choose your level of difficulty and then you will be matched up with a coach and a group of riders of similar ability and goals.

On the up and up are two longstanding MGT campers; Raewyn Reid and Bev Vuillemier (aka. Notorious BEV). These girls have shimmied along with MGT for many years and have pranked or spooned an MGT coach, or two, over the years. Below is what they have to say about their experience at camp:

When did you first become an MGT lifer?
When I was just a young buck of fourteen I picked up a MGT snowboard camp brochure at a local skate shop and chose to attend a MGT summer camp on the glacier.

How did you first get rad and what were you doing?
Leanne and Joanna taught me how to do methods on a jump we had in out park. I don't think i have ever been more stoked on one particular trick haha.

Which MGT coaches have you had over the years?
Thus far, I have been lucky enough to have Leanne, Juan (Jacqui Berg haha), Alexis, Dom, and Joanna. Joanna, Robin, and Kluz show me up at Canada Olympic Mountain on a regular basis though

Tell us a bit about yourself and what you have going on?
Well this season I went to Grouse (Vancouver) for the MGT slopestyle (probably the best contest in the world) and from there I went to the Billabong All Girl Flaunt It slopestyle at Tremblant. I did a few more contests in and around Canada and I was lucky get down the states a couple times also for some contests and fun. I even lucked out once or twice and ended up winning some money so I got mortal kombat for my garage and remodeled my fish tank in a china theme.

What do you have stashed away in the ol' bag o tricks?
I most certainly have methods on speed dial and Bev V stands in on Tuesdays as my assigned stunt double. Other than that I’m pretty fond of a variety of whirly birds and half twists that seem to be pretty regular.

What has MGT taught you and if and how has it helped you achieve your current position in snowboarding?
I don’t even know where to start… to name a few: Giving me some of the best experiences I have ever had in my life, teaching me tons of tricks, coming to my school disguised as penguins and snowmen and dancing around my auditorium to Le Tigre, getting me involved with amazing companies such as DC, K2, Nomis, Electric and The Source, helping me get to contests, being amazing friends and role models, showing me exactly who I want to be, showing me how fun snowboarding actually is, having my back 100%, and being my second family, well that’s only the beginning. Somewhere in the past four years for which I have been involved with MGT I acquired lucky stars and I could not be more thankful. Coincidental? I think not.

What has MGT taught you and if and how has it helped you achieve your current position in snowboarding?
Oh man...everything! Seriously, the whole camp is really positive and all of the coaches are so rad and truly encouraging. The camps are really for the campers. All of my coaches at MGT gave me the confidence to believe in myself and to just have fun. Not only did they sign some sweet posters of themselves for me (which are still up on my walls), but they helped me lock down a couple of my main sponsors. Totally awesome!!

MGT is Legit son!!!!! Go there to learn some sweet tricks, meet rad new peeps, maybe add some new dance moves to your routine and some guaranteed laughing sessions. It seriously is so fun and you can really learn a lot!
